The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 there is no denying its coming 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 Who will be honoured 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 on lavish couches 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 Round about them will (serve) youths of perpetual (freshness), 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 We have made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
