The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 and the Outstrippers: the Outstrippers 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 on lavish couches 15 Reclining face to face. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And clustered plantains, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water everflowing. 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 on raised couches. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
