The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 Who will be honoured 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 and continuous shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
