The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 there is no denying its coming 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 a host of the ancients 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 And extended shade, 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 And made them virginal, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
