The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 – and then there will be no one to deny its occurrence – 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And those foremost [(in Islamic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on the very first call for to embrace Islam,] will be foremost (in Paradise). 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 and banana trees, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 And water gushing, 31 and abundant fruit, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 for the people of the right hand 38
