The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In gardens of delight; 12 a large group of the early believers, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and spreading shade 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 undiminished and never denied 33 and raised couches 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 And made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
