A crowd of earlier generations 39 And a multitude from the later generations. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 They had been affluent before, 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected? 47 And also our forefathers?" 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 Ye verily will eat of a tree called Zaqqum 52 and you shall fill therewith your bellies 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 Is it you who creates it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 To transfigure you and create you in (forms) that you know not. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 Is it you or We Who make them grow? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 And say: "We have fallen into debt; 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Is it you that originated its tree, or are We the Originator? 72 We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
