A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 and many from the later generations. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 neither cool, neither goodly; 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 Say (O Muhammad SAW): "(Yes) verily, those of old, and those of later times. 49 Are going to be assembled on the appointed time of a Day Known. 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum. 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? 57 Have you considered the seed you spill? 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 Have you ever considered the seed which you cast upon the soil? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 If We so pleased, We certainly could make it salty. Why, then, are you not grateful? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy. 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
