a multitude of the ancients, 39 and many from the later generations. 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, 42 and the shadows of black smoke 43 neither cool nor good. 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 and persisted in the great sin 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say: 'Those of ancient times and those of later times 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 Will be eating from trees of zaqqum 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 did you create it or did We? 59 We have [indeed] decreed that death shall be [ever-present] among you: but there is nothing to prevent Us 60 That We may transfigure you and make you what ye know not. 61 And indeed, you have already known the first form of creation (i.e. the creation of Adam), why then do you not remember or take heed? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Is it you or We Who make them grow? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 Have you considered the water that you drink? 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you who grew its tree, or is it We Who create? 72 We have made it a Reminder (for the Hell-fire, in the Hereafter); and an article of use for the travellers (and all the others, in this world). 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
