a good many of olden times, 39 and a good many of later times. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 Indeed they were, before that, indulging in affluence, 45 And were stubborn upon the great sin (of disbelief). 46 and they used to say, "What! After we have died and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up again? 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum. 52 and you shall fill therewith your bellies 53 And shall be drinkers thereon of boiling water. 54 "Indeed ye shall drink like diseased camels raging with thirst!" 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Did you ever consider the sperm that you emit? 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 We have destined death for you and no one can challenge Us 60 From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. 61 And you have indeed learnt about the first creation, so why do you not ponder? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 "Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)" 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? 69 [It comes down sweet - but] were it Our will, We could make it burningly salty and bitter: why, then, do you not give thanks [unto Us]? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 Therefore glorify the name of your Lord, the Great. 74
