A numerous company from among the first, 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 The Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 41 [They will be] in scorching fire and scalding water 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 Neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 And they used to say, "When we die and become dust and bones, are we indeed to be resurrected? 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say thou: verily the ancients and those of later generations: 49 will be brought together for an appointment on an appointed day. 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? 57 Just consider (the semen) that you emit, 58 Create him ye, or are We the Creator? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 from replacing you by others like yourselves or changing your forms and re-creating you in forms that you know nothing of. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 Do you yourselves sow it, or are We the Sowers? 64 If We will We can make it like dry trampled hay, so you would keep crying out. 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 Nay! we are deprived. 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 So what is your opinion regarding the fire which you kindle? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
