The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 From Allah, Owner of the ascending steps. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 they see it as being far off; 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the hills become as flakes of wool, 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 and his spouse and his brother, 12 the kinsmen who gave him shelter, 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 By no means! It will be the fierce flame 15 Dragging by the head, 16 It will claim all such as turn their backs [on what is right,] and turn away [from the truth,] 17 and amassed wealth and covetously hoarded it. 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 When they are afflicted, they complain, 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 except those who are steadfast 22 Those who remain steadfast to their prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 and go in fear of the chastisement of their Lord 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 who guard their privates 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 and who are constant in their prayers. 34 Such shall dwell in the Gardens (i.e. Paradise) honoured. 35
