The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On lined couches, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 And clustered plantains, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
