The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 Verily! They see it (the torment) afar off, 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 [It will take place] on a Day when the sky will be like molten lead, 8 And the hills will be light as wool. 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 and of his spouse, and of his brother, 12 the kinsmen who gave him shelter, 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 But no! There is a raging blaze 15 Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 Fretful when evil befalleth him 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) 22 Those who remain constant in their Salat (prayers); 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 to those who ask [for help] and to the destitute; 25 and who accept as true the [coming of the] Day of Judgment; 26 And those who are fearful of the chastisement of their Lord-- 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 And those who guard their sex except from their wives and women slaves of old 29 except in regard to their spouses and those whom their right hands possess, for in regard to them they are not reproachable, 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 And those who are to their trusts and promises attentive 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 and (finally) those who do not miss their ritual - prayers at the prescribed times; 34 Those are highly honored in the Gardens. 35
