The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A supplicant asked for a punishment bound to happen 1 The unbelievers-- there is none to avert it-- 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 Indeed, they see it [as] distant, 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 His wife and his brother, 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 But nay! for lo! it is the fire of hell 15 stripping away his skin, 16 It shall call him who turneth back and backslideth. 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ Surely man is created of a hasty temperament 19 Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him 20 and tight-fisted when good fortune visits him, 21 Except those who pray, 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 who confirm the Day of Doom 26 and go in fear of the chastisement of their Lord 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 And those who guard their chastity, 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 but whoever goes beyond this is a transgressor; 31 and those who fulfil their trusts and their covenants, 32 and perform their witnessings, 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
