The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A doubter once demanded that punishment be immediately meted out, 1 To the disbelievers; of it there is no preventer. 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit mount up, in a day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 On the Day the sky will be like murky oil, 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 And his spouse and his brother. 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 And all that are in the earth, so that it might save him. 14 Never! That is indeed a blazing fire. 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from spending it in the Cause of Allah). 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 Being greatly grieved when evil afflicts him 20 And refraining, when good reaches him. 21 Except the observers of prayer - 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 In whose wealth a due share is included 24 for such as ask [for help] and such as are deprived [of what is good in life]; 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 And those who guard their chastity (i.e. private parts from illegal sexual acts). 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 But whoever seeks beyond that, then they are the transgressors - 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 and standby their witnessing, 33 and who take due care of their Prayer: 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
