The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, 2 [It is] from Allah, owner of the ways of ascent. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him in one Day which will last for fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 5 behold, men look upon that [reckoning] as something far away 6 While we behold it nigh: 7 The Day that the sky will be like the boiling filth of oil, (or molten copper or silver or lead, etc.). 8 and the mountains will be like tufts of wool, 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 though they may see each other. A sinner will wish that he could save himself from the torment of that day by sacrificing his children, 11 And his spouse and his brother. 12 and his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 and of whoever [else] lives on earth, all of them - so that he could but save himself. 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 That would skin the scalp. 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from spending it in the Cause of Allah). 18 ۞ Surely man is created of a hasty temperament 19 when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 Except those who pray, 22 [and] who incessantly persevere in their prayer 23 And those in whose riches is a known right. 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord, -- 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 and guard their private parts 29 Except from their wives or those their right hands possess, for indeed, they are not to be blamed - 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 And those who stand firm in their testimonies; 33 And those who keep a guard on their prayer, 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
