The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 Verily they think that the chastisement is far off, 6 while We think that it is near at hand. 7 The Day that the sky will be like the boiling filth of oil, (or molten copper or silver or lead, etc.). 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend will ask [anything of] a friend, 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 And his spouse and his brother 12 and of all the kinsfolk who ever sheltered him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, altogether, so that it might save him. 14 But nay! Verily, all [that awaits him] is a raging flame, 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 and amassed wealth and covetously hoarded it. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 when good visits him, grudging, 21 Except those who establish prayer. 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 And those in whose wealth exists a recognised right, 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 And those who believe the Day of Judgement to be true. 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 For their Lord's displeasure is the opposite of Peace and Tranquillity;- 28 and those who guard their private parts, 29 [not giving way to their desires] with any but their spouses - that is, those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock]: for then, behold, they are free of all blame, 30 But those who trespass beyond this are transgressors;- 31 And those who keep their trusts and covenants; 32 and those who are upright in their testimonies; 33 And those who are attentive at their worship. 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
