The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 The angels and Jibreel, ascend towards Him – the punishment will befall on a day which spans fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient with gracious patience. 5 Lo! they behold it afar off 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the sky will become like molten brass, 8 And the hills become as flakes of wool, 9 And no friend will ask concerning his friend. 10 Though they will be put in sight of each other,- the sinner's desire will be: Would that he could redeem himself from the Penalty of that Day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 By no means! Surely it is a flaming fire 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Indeed, mankind was created anxious: 19 When evil comes upon him he is impatient; 20 And, when good befalleth him, grudging; 21 save those that pray 22 Who persevere in devotion, 23 And those in whose wealth is a recognised right. 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 and who accept as true the [coming of the] Day of Judgment; 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 for none may ever feel secure from the punishment of their Lord; 28 And those who guard their chastity, 29 Except with their wives and the bondwomen in their possession, for there is no reproach on them. 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 who honor their trust and promises, 32 who testify to what they have witnessed, 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 It is these who will be honoured in Gardens. 35
