The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A caller supplicated about a punishment to fall on 1 those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, 2 [since it will come] from God, unto whom there are many ways of ascent: 3 To Him the angels and the Spirit (Gabriel) ascend in a day, the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the heaven shall become like unto dregs of oil. 8 and the mountains will be like tufts of wool, 9 no loyal friend shall question loyal friend, 10 though they may be in one another's sight: [for,] everyone who was lost in sin will on that Day but desire to ransom himself from suffering at the price of his own children, 11 And his spouse and his brother 12 And his nearest kindred who shelter him 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And collect (wealth) and hide it (from spending it in the Cause of Allah). 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 If evil befalls him he is perturbed; 20 And niggardly when good befalls him 21 Except those devoted to Salat (prayers) 22 Those who are constant in their prayer 23 And those in whose wealth there is a known right, 24 For the beggar and the destitute; 25 who confirm the Day of Reckoning 26 and fear the chastisement of their Lord – 27 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 (Those) who keep their trusts and their covenant, 32 And those who are upright in their testimonies, 33 And those who keep a guard on their prayer, 34 Those shall be in Gardens, high-honoured. 35
