Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 stand up to pray for much of the night. 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 or add to it [at will]; and [during that time] recite the Qur'an calmly and distinctly, with thy mind attuned to its meaning. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 But recite the name of your Lord withdrawing yourself from everything, devoting yourself exclusively to Him. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He. So take Him alone for your Guardian, 9 And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking. 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 Verily, with Us are fetters (to bind them), and a raging Fire. 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 The heaven shall rend asunder thereby; His promise is ever brought to fulfillment. 18 Verily, this is an admonition, therefore whosoever will, let him take a Path to His Lord! 19
