O thou enwrapped! 1 Stand (to prayer) by night, but not all night,- 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 or add to it a little; and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Indeed, the first part of night is heavier in tread, and more upright in speech. 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with (exclusive) devotion. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no Allah save Him; so choose thou Him alone for thy defender - 9 And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. 10 Leave those to Me who deny, the lovers of ease and comfort; and bear with them for a while. 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 food that chokes and painful punishment 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 In response Firaun disobeyed the Noble Messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 This is indeed an advice; so whoever wishes may take the path towards his Lord. 19
