In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O YOU ENWRAPPED in the cloak (of Prophethood), 1 Keep awake [in prayer] at night, all but a small part 2 For half the night, or reduce some from it. 3 or add to it a little; and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Verily We! anon We shall cast upon thee a weighty word. 5 Surely getting up at night is the best means of subduing the self and is more suitable for uprightness in speech. 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and, leaving others, devote yourself solely to Him. 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 and food that chokes, and grievous suffering 13 One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, 15 However, the Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger and We seized him with a severe retribution. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
