Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Rise to pray in the night except a little, 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 Or a little more, and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Surely getting up at night is the best means of subduing the self and is more suitable for uprightness in speech. 6 Lo! thou hast by day a chain of business. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 (He Alone is) the Lord of the east and the west, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). So take Him Alone as Wakil (Disposer of your affairs). 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the affluent ones who give the lie (to the Truth), and bear with them for a while. 11 Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment, 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 Indeed, We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness upon you just as We sent to Pharaoh a messenger. 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 If you disbelieve, how will you guard yourself against the Day that will make children gray haired, 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 Verily this is an admonition; let him therefore, who will, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
