The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Occurrence occurs, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 and clustered bananas, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and flowing water, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Neither limited [to season] nor forbidden, 33 And raised couches. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
