Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you the (sleeping) enwrapped one! 1 Stand (to pray) all night, except a little. 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon you a Weighty Word. 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 Lo! thou hast by day a chain of business. 7 But [whether by night or by day,] remember thy Sustainer's name, and devote thyself unto Him with utter devotion. 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 And bear thou patiently what they say, and forsake them graciously. 10 And leave Me Alone to deal with the beliers (those who deny My Verses, etc.), and those who are in possession of good things of life. And give them respite for a little while. 11 With Us are Fetters (to bind them), and a Fire (to burn them), 12 And food that will stick in the throat, and painful torment 13 (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 In response Firaun disobeyed the Noble Messenger, so We seized him with a severe seizure. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
