In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
You, who have wrapped yourself up with a mantle, 1 Keep watch all the night except some, 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 We shall soon entrust to you a message heavy (with solemnity). 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 You are indeed much occupied during the day with the affairs of the world. 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 and a food that chokes, and a grievous chastisement. 13 On the Day when the earth with all its mountains quake and the mountains become heaps of shifting sand. 14 Verily, We have sent to you (O men) a Messenger (Muhammad SAW) to be a witness over you, as We did send a Messenger [Musa (Moses)] to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). 15 But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger, whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 Verily this is an admonition; let him therefore, who will, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
