The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And your Lord glorify 3 And your clothing purify 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he looked, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
