The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and warn 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 death seize him, how he determined! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
