The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 arise and give warning! 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 purify your garments; 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he beheld, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 Blackening the skins. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
