The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 And your garments do purify, 4 stay away from sins 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 So that is a tough day. 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
