The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And all abomination shun! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen (guards). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
