The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And stay away from idols. 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 So that is a tough day. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 May he be condemned! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
