The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And your clothing purify 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And sons always present by his side, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 Yet he desires that I should give more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 and in the end he turns his back [on Our message,] and glories in his arrogance, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
