The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 Pollution shun! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 That Day will be a difficult day 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I will cast him into the fire of Hell. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
