The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 thy robes purify 4 and flee from the statues! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 For when the trumpet is sounded, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
