The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 arise and give warning! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 thy robes purify 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
