[AND the tribe of] Thamud gave the lie to all [Our] warnings; 23 So they said: What! a single mortal from among us! Shall we follow him? Most surely we shall in that case be in sure error and distress: 24 Has the reminder been made to light upon him from among us? Nay! he is an insolent liar! 25 [And God said:] "On the morrow they will come to know who the boastful liar is! 26 “We shall send a she-camel to test them, therefore O Saleh, wait and have patience.” 27 Tell them that the water is to be apportioned between them (and her); and every turn of drinking will be fixed (for each)." 28 But they called their companion who took hold of her and hamstrung her. 29 So how dreadful have been My torment and My warnings. 30 We loosed against them one Cry, and they were as the wattles of a pen-builder. 31 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 32 The people of Lot rejected Our warning. 33 Lo! We sent a storm of stones upon them (all) save the family of Lot, whom We rescued in the last watch of the night, 34 As a favour from Us. Thus We recompense him who giveth thanks. 35 And he indeed had warned them of Our blow, but they did doubt the warnings. 36 They even asked of him his guests for an ill purpose. Then We blinded their eyes (and said): Taste now My punishment after My warnings! 37 And indeed, abiding suffering did befall them early on the morrow: 38 We said, "Suffer Our torment of which you were warned". 39 Surely We have made this Qur'an easy as a reminder. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 40
