The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou shrouded in thy mantle, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And made things easy for them. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 It is nothing but the word of a mortal' 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
