The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And uncleanness do shun, 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
