The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 and flee from the statues! 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then he looked, 21 then frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. 24 This is naught else than speech of mortal man. 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 scorching the flesh; 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
