The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 arise and warn, 2 And your Lord do magnify, 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 it will be a hard day 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then looked he, 21 And frowned and puckered his brow, 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what can make you know what is Saqar? 27 It shall not spare, nor leave. 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
