The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 About which they have been differing? 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 HAVE WE NOT made the earth a resting-place [for you,] 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 made sleep for you to rest, 9 The night a covering, 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And (have We not) built over you the seven firmaments, 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 that We may bring forth with it grain, plants 15 and luxuriant gardens. 16 Verily the Day of Decision is a time appointed. 17 On that day the trumpet will be sounded and you will come (to Us) in huge groups. 18 and heaven is opened, and become gates, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Surely, Hell lies in wait, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 They will neither taste anything cool in it, nor anything to drink. 24 Except boiling water and benumbing cold: 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 Verily they were wont not to look for a reckoning. 27 and persistently rejected Our revelations. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
