The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 do not bestow a favour in the expectation of receiving more in return; 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And children present [with him] 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what knoweth thou that which the Scorching Fire? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 Scorching the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
