The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O the Cloaked One! (Prophet Mohammed peace and blessings be upon him) 1 arise and give warning! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 Thy raiment purify, 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 it will be a hard day 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 then he retreated, and waxed proud. 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 Burning the skins! 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
