The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn, 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 and purify your robes, 4 and defilement flee! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And made (life) smooth for him. 14 and who still desires more. 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Verily, he thought and plotted; 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
