Nay, by the Moon 32 By the receding night 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 A warning to mankind, 36 whether one steps forward to embrace the faith or one turns away from it. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 save the Companions of the Right; 39 In Gardens they will question 40 About the criminals, 41 [And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?" 42 They will say: we have not been of those who prayed. 43 And we have not been feeding the poor. 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 and the Day of Judgment we were wont to call a lie 46 Until there came to us the certainty." 47 Then the intercession of the intercessors shall not profit them. 48 What aileth them, therefore, that they are from the admonition turning away? 49 as though they were frightened wild asses, 50 running away from a lion? 51 No indeed; each one of them desires that open letters be sent to each of them. 52 By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, 53 By no means! Verily this Qur'an is an admonition. 54 So, whoever wills may benefit from it. 55 No one will seek guidance unless God wills it. He alone is worthy of being feared and He is the Source of Forgiveness. 56
