Nay! By the moon 32 And [by] the night when it departs 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 A warning unto humankind 36 To any of you that chooses to press forward, or to follow behind;- 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 Except those on the right side. 39 who shall be in the Gardens, and shall ask 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 What led you into the Scorching Fire? 42 They shall say, 'We were not of those who prayed, and 43 and we did not feed the poor; 44 "But we used to talk vanities with vain talkers; 45 and the Day of Judgment we were wont to call a lie 46 “Till death overcame us.” 47 The intercession of their intercessors shall not benefit them. 48 Why then do they turn away from the admonition 49 As if they were alarmed donkeys 50 fleeing from a lion? 51 Yea, everyone of them claims that he [himself] ought to have been given revelations unfolded! 52 By no means! But they fear not the Hereafter, 53 Nay, verily, this is an admonition 54 Let anyone who seeks guidance do so. 55 they will only take heed if God so wills: He is the Lord who is worthy to be feared: the Lord of forgiveness. 56
