Nay; I swear by the moon, 32 by the retreating night, 33 and by the day when it dawns (with its radiance), 34 This is but one of the mighty (portents), 35 A warning unto humankind 36 whether one steps forward to embrace the faith or one turns away from it. 37 Every person is a pledge for what he has earned, 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 In gardens, they shall ask each other 40 Concerning the guilty: 41 "what led you into hell?" 42 They will say: "We were not of those who prayed; 43 and neither did we feed the needy; 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 and we denied the Day of Judgement 46 "Until there came to us (the death) that is certain." 47 So no intercession will avail them. 48 What ails them, that they turn away from the Reminder, 49 As if they were frightened (wild) donkeys. 50 Fleeing from a hunter, or a lion, or a beast of prey. 51 Indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. 52 Nay, verily. They fear not the Hereafter. 53 No, indeed, surely, this is a Reminder. 54 So whoever pleases may mind it. 55 And they shall not heed unless Allah willeth. He is the Lord of piety, and the Lord of forgiveness. 56
