The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Indeed, there came upon the human a period of time when he was an unremembered thing. 1 Verily We created Man from a drop of mingled sperm, in order to try him: So We gave him (the gifts), of Hearing and Sight. 2 Surely We guided him upon the way whether he be thankful or unthankful. 3 We have indeed kept prepared chains, and shackles and a blazing fire for the disbelievers. 4 Verily the pious shall drink of a cup whereof the admixture is like unto camphor. 5 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah will drink, causing it to gush forth abundantly. 6 They fulfil their pledges, and fear a day the evil of which is widespread. 7 And they give food out of love for Him to the poor and the orphan and the captive: 8 (Saying): "We feed you for the sake of God, desiring neither recompense nor thanks. 9 Truly, we fear from our Lord a woefully grim Day." 10 Therefor Allah hath warded off from them the evil of that day, and hath made them find brightness and joy; 11 and recompense them for their patience with a Garden, and robes of silk. 12 Reclining in it, upon thrones; they will not see the hot sunshine in it, nor the bitter cold. 13 And the shades of the (Garden) will come low over them, and the bunches (of fruit), there, will hang low in humility. 14 Goblets of silver are brought round for them, and beakers (as) of glass 15 Clear glasses [made] from silver of which they have determined the measure. 16 And in Paradise they will be given to drink cups, filled with a mixture of ginger. 17 A fountain there, called Salsabil. 18 ۞ And immortal youths will wait upon them: when thou seest them, thou wouldst deem them to be scattered pearls; 19 If you were to see it, you would find it to be a great kingdom with great bounty. 20 They will have fine green silk and brocade, and they will be decked with bracelets of silver. Their Lord will provide them with a drink of pure wine. 21 Verily this is for you by way of recompense, and your endeavour hath been accepted. 22
